What to see and do in Villalbarba

Villalbarba
Village
Villalbarba is a hamlet in the province of Valladolid, in the Montes Torozos, beside the río Hornija, with about 95 inhabitants. It was probably repopulated in the 10th century by Christians of Visigothic-Mozarabic origin who came from south of the Duero, and belonged as a lordship to the count of Villanueva del Cañedo and later to the State of Alcañices. At the end of the 15th century two great floods swamped its streets, but the residents saved themselves by taking refuge in an old medieval watchtower; in gratitude they built beside it, in 1504, the church of San Miguel Arcángel, in Gothic-Mudéjar style, with plain stone walls and a bell-gable with medieval motifs. In August it celebrates the Semana Cultural del Trapero.

Monument
Raised in 1504 in a sober Gothic-Mudéjar, of stone walls and a belfry gable with medieval motifs. It has three naves, a barrel-vaulted transept and a main chapel, and it stands on the height where the residents took refuge from the floods of the end of the 15th century.
