What to see and do in Quintanilla de Onésimo

Quintanilla de Onésimo
Village
Quintanilla de Onésimo is a town of 1043 inhabitants in the comarca of Campo de Peñafiel, between Valladolid and Peñafiel, on the left bank of the Duero, where the canal bearing the river's name begins. Already documented in 1097 as a donation to the monastery of Sahagún, in the 18th century it was a manorial town with a mayor; in the 19th it was the birthplace of the Alonso Pesquera family, which produced members of parliament and senators. Its current name, adopted in 1941, replaced the original Nava de Coca. It had a station on the Valladolid-Ariza line, closed to passenger traffic in 1985, whose building is preserved in good condition. Its Gothic church of San Millán holds a Renaissance altarpiece with panels by Francisco Giralte, and in August it hands out wine in the square according to a 16th-century tradition.
