What to see and do in Olivares de Duero

Olivares de Duero
Village
Olivares de Duero is a village of 328 inhabitants in the Páramos del Esgueva, in Valladolid, documented since the 12th century as a possession of Count García Ordóñez, companion of the Cid Campeador, and later linked to the Abadía de Valladolid until Philip II sold it to its inhabitants. Its economy now revolves around the wineries of the Ribera del Duero designation of origin. The village is presided over by the Gothic church of San Pelayo, from the second half of the 15th century, with three naves under star vaults; it holds a Plateresque main altarpiece of more than fifty panels attributed to Juan Soreda, known as the Maestro de Olivares. It also preserves the chapel of Nuestra Señora de la Estrella, from the 17th century.
