What to see and do in Moraleja de las Panaderas

Moraleja de las Panaderas
Village
Moraleja de las Panaderas is a hamlet of 42 inhabitants situated between Olmedo and Medina del Campo, whose history was linked to the latter from the time it formed part of its community of town and land in the 12th century; the oldest document mentioning it, from 1250, records the payment of two maravedís to the church and the bishop of Ávila. The nickname las Panaderas recalls that in the towns near Medina bread ovens were plentiful, a trade then almost exclusively female. Its territory, of 15.34 km², is divided between stone pine and maritime pine woods, the traditional basis of its economy along with agriculture. Of its church of San Boal, which collapsed from the 1960s onward, only consolidated walls and arches remain, along with the standing tower with its bell, saved by the residents.

Nature
Between Olmedo and Medina del Campo, at 734 metres, the municipal district of 15.34 square kilometres is dominated by stands of Scots pine and black pine that set a limit to the cereal plain of the countryside.

Curiosity
The church of two naves with round arches and an eighteenth-century vault was left ruined in the sixties; only the tower with its bell gable holds out. The hermitage of Santa Ana had already been pulled down in 1796.
