What to see and do in San Vicente del Palacio

San Vicente del Palacio
Village
San Vicente del Palacio is a hamlet in the province of Valladolid situated on the plain of the Tierra de Medina, about 65 kilometres from the provincial capital and at an altitude of 751 metres; the river Zapardiel runs along the western edge of its territory. Its climate, semi-arid according to the Köppen classification, corresponds to that of much of this Castilian district. In the mid-19th century, when it is described in Pascual Madoz's Diccionario, San Vicente del Palacio had 332 inhabitants, more than double the 155 it has today.

Nature
The municipal district, of 37.94 square kilometres at 747 metres and bounded to the west by the Zapardiel, registers barely 394 millimetres of rain a year and an average of thirteen degrees: a dry farmland of almost steppe climate.

Food and drink
Madoz's dictionary described in 1850 a village of one hundred and twenty houses on the right bank of the river that produced cereals, vegetables and wine, the three bases of a countryside larder in dry farming country.
