Villavicencio de los Caballeros
Village
Villavicencio de los Caballeros is a town of about 215 inhabitants in the Tierra de Campos comarca, province of Valladolid. Its first settlement stood at the Teso del Castro, a hill above the río Valderaduey with remains from the Iron Age and Roman times. The first documented lord of the lineage, Miguel Fernández de Villavicencio, lived under Henry I, and in 1221 the town received its own fueros. It preserves the Mudéjar tower of the church of San Pelayo, two 16th-century churches with retables from the school of Gaspar Becerra and Esteban Jordán, and the casa-palacio of the Franco family. It celebrates its festival on 14 September in honour of the Cristo de la Gracia.
