Valdunquillo
Village
Valdunquillo is a town in Valladolid with about 111 inhabitants, in the Tierra de Campos comarca, already inhabited in Vaccaean times and documented since the year 959 in a text from the monastery of Sahagún. In 1368 Henry II granted the town to Alvar Pérez de Osorio, whose lineage would shape its history: in 1623 Philip IV turned the old Osorio lordship into a marquisate, in favour of Francisca de Valdés Osorio. It preserves the convent of la Merced, whose construction was negotiated from 1607 between that same Francisca Osorio and the Mercedarian order, the palace later inherited by the dukes of Alba, descendants of the Osorios, and the so-called Torre Caída, the only remains still standing of the 18th-century church of San Pedro.
