Villalán de Campos
Village
Villalán de Campos is a municipality in the province of Valladolid, in the Tierra de Campos comarca, where the cereal plain blends with gentle hills near the valley of the río Valderaduey; it is crossed by the río Navajos, also called the Bustillo stream or Ahogaborricos. Its name, already documented in the 11th century as Villa Egilani, would come from a 10th-century settler called Egila. With 36 inhabitants and adobe houses, the village is surrounded by land with numerous circular dovecotes. Of its old church of Santa Cecilia only the tower survives, of five tiers, the top two in Mudéjar style, now restored as a rural house. Its streets have been filled with poems along a literary trail.
