Aguilar de Campos
Village
Aguilar de Campos is a town of the historic district of Tierra de Campos, in the province of Valladolid, located between Valladolid and León and crossed by the río Navajos, also called the Arroyo Bustillo or Ahogaborricos, a tributary of the Valderaduey. Some authors identify it with the ancient Intercatia, although others place that city at Villalpando, Montealegre, Tordehumos or Paredes de Nava. A farming and livestock village, it was called Castro Mayor and Juan I granted it in 1389 to Alfonso Enríquez, first Admiral of Castile, whose lineage held it until the 17th century. Its Plaza Mayor, with the jurisdictional rollo and the church of San Andrés, is declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection). It has about 260 inhabitants.
