Tordehumos
Village
Tordehumos is a town in the province of Valladolid, in Tierra de Campos, with about 360 inhabitants, whose origins go back to Vaccaean times, as attested by remains found around its castle, including Roman tegulae and Celtiberian pottery. It is already mentioned in 974, in a document from Astorga, as Oter de Fumos, and it is famous for the treaty that Castilla and León signed there in 1194, by which Alfonso VIII and Alfonso IX ended their war. Of its castle only vestiges remain on the hill. It preserves the church of Santa María la Sagrada, from the 16th century, with an altarpiece attributed to Juan Ortiz el Viejo, and the church of Santiago, of Mudéjar influence. The Ecomuseo Tierra del Sequillo operates there, and in September the festivals of the Santo Cristo de la Vega include an encierro of fighting bulls.
