Villabrágima
Village
Villabrágima is a town in the Tierra de Campos comarca, in the province of Valladolid, situated at the foot of the Montes Torozos, 9 kilometres from Medina de Rioseco, with about 1,075 inhabitants; its place name joins the Latin villa to the Arabic name Ibrahim. The río Sequillo runs through its urban centre, and its irrigation waters also arrive via the Canal de Castilla. Nearby there existed, between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD, a Roman settlement of unknown name, like ten other present-day villages in the province close to the same river, among them Medina de Rioseco. The town preserves the church of Santa María, with a plateresque doorway and the chapel of the count of Rivadavia, and that of San Ginés, with an altarpiece also plateresque that includes work by Francisco Giralte.
