Berrueces
Village
Berrueces is a hamlet of about 85 inhabitants in the Tierra de Campos district, in the province of Valladolid, located on the Camino de Santiago from Madrid at 774 metres of altitude. The first documentary reference dates from 1251, although its origin is older: in the area known as La Coronilla, pottery remains with human and animal figures have appeared, along with a bronze coin from the year 350 bearing the bust of emperor Constantius II, and in the area known as Los Chozos, near the hermitage of Pedrosa, there is another Roman site. Its church of San Pedro Apóstol, from the 16th century with 18th-century reforms, alternates brick and ashlar stone and was left with its tower unfinished, topped only with a weathervane; near the presbytery rises a small dome with four circular windows.
