Tamariz de Campos
Village
Tamariz de Campos is a town of about 85 inhabitants in Valladolid, on the Camino de Santiago de Madrid, next to the río Sequillo, where the Canal de Castilla has locks 6 and 7 of its Ramal de Campos branch; it claims to be the only town with two of the canal's locks within its boundaries. Its wine cellars line the riverbank, and the village preserves the church of San Pedro, with a Romanesque doorway and Baroque altarpieces, that of San Juan Bautista, with a Renaissance doorway and remains of its old tower, the hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Castillo and the Palacio de los Lara, from the 13th century, with a Gothic doorway and lobed windows. Its festivals are on 15 May, in honour of San Isidro, and on 8 September, dedicated to the Virgen del Castillo.
