What to see and do in Renedo de Esgueva

Renedo de Esgueva
Village
Renedo de Esgueva is a municipality in the Páramos del Esgueva comarca, in the province of Valladolid, situated on the banks of the river Esgueva and within the orbit of the capital, with which it is connected via Cigales along the VA-30 road. It has 3,993 inhabitants. Its parish church of la Inmaculada, built in 1736, is a fine example of Baroque architecture in the valley; on the edge of the village a stone doorway brought from Santander in the last century is also preserved. Its festivities are held on 2 July in honour of Santa Isabel.

Monument
Built between 1736 and 1738, it is one of the best examples of Baroque in the valley: a single nave with chapels between buttresses covered by a barrel vault with lunettes and a dome over the crossing.
The meeting of Renedo
Historical milestone
On 5 July 1506 Renedo hosted a tense meeting between Fernando el Católico and his son-in-law Felipe el Hermoso, in the middle of the struggle over the government of Castile after the death of Isabel la Católica.

Curiosity
At the entrance to the village stands a stone doorway that was not carved here: it was brought from Santander and reassembled in the municipal district. Outside the built-up area there also remains the cross of the vanished hermitage of the Santo Cristo del Racimo.
