What to see and do in La Cistérniga

La Cistérniga
Village
La Cistérniga, with about 9,500 inhabitants, lies right up against Valladolid, from which barely five kilometres separate it, and until 1851 it was considered a suburb of the city. Its name probably derives from cisterna, water reservoir, referring to those that collected water running off the páramos (high plateaus) east of the village, in an area that was once very damp. Its municipal area, crossed by the River Duero to the south, is mostly flat, with hills and páramos to the north, and the village stands at 737 metres above sea level. Since 1997 it has grown explosively, now part of Valladolid's metropolitan area, informally known as the Alfoz, whose economic engine is the La Mora industrial estate.
