What to see and do in Berceruelo

Berceruelo
Village
Berceruelo is one of the most depopulated municipalities in Valladolid: the 275 residents —heads of family— that Madoz counted in the mid-19th century have dwindled to just 36 inhabitants (INE 2025), in a territory of 13.94 km² at 788 m altitude, in the Montes Torozos district. Its settlement, of only 34 houses according to Madoz, is grouped on the hillside, exposed to easterly and westerly winds, around the parish church of San Juan ante Portam Latinam, a suffragan of that of Bercero. The economy was based on growing wheat, barley and rye, with some vineyards, and it had stone quarries for wine presses.

Nature
At 788 metres on the moorland of Torozos, this village of barely 36 residents preserves the trace of a vanished farming landscape: the young vineyards that surrounded it, the quarries from which the stone of the wine presses was taken and the lime kilns that today are silent.
