What to see and do in Vega de Valdetronco

Vega de Valdetronco
Village
Vega de Valdetronco is a village of about 90 inhabitants situated at 709 metres of altitude, beside the Autovía del Noroeste, about 40 kilometres west of Valladolid. The municipal area, with very flat terrain, is crossed by the río Hornija, which flows down from the Montes Torozos towards the Duero, and to the north the landscape begins to rise towards the páramo of the Torozos. In the mid-19th century it had about 300 inhabitants, a population that has been shrinking ever since. It preserves the church of San Miguel, whose feast day, 29 September, marks the village's patronage, and the hermitage of the Cristo. The patronal festivities, however, are held on 3 May, dedicated to the Santa Cruz.

Nature
The river Hornija crosses here a flat and fertile terrain at some 708 metres of altitude, in contrast with the moorland that dominates it. That floodplain of good quality explains why the village carries the word vega in its name and why it yielded cereal, wine, pulses and pastures.
