What to see and do in Velliza

Velliza
Village
Velliza is a settlement of about 120 inhabitants set on a small knoll overlooking the vega of the Arroyo de las Regueras, at the intersection of the valleys descending from the nearby slopes, within the Montes Torozos of the province of Valladolid, between the municipal areas of Geria, Velilla, Villán de Tordesillas and Matilla de los Caños. Its name, documented as Veliça in the Becerro de las Behetrías of 1350, points back to the times of the Reconquest after the Battle of Simancas of the year 939, when the area was repopulated to fix the Christian frontier in the Duero valley. Its church of San Millán, built in ashlar stone between the 16th and 18th centuries, stands on a hillock with three naves and floral plasterwork in the vaults; its patroness, Nuestra Señora de los Perales, is carried in procession on 8 September.
