What to see and do in Bercero

Bercero
Village
Bercero is a village of 170 inhabitants at 737 metres above sea level, in the flat Valladolid comarca of Tierra del Vino, 43 kilometres from the provincial capital; its name comes from a group of settlers who arrived from El Bierzo, who settled beside an old Vaccean settlement, on the site later occupied by the vanished village of Las Arenillas. Traditionally devoted to basket-weaving, it grew to 1.000 inhabitants in the early 20th century; its school, built in 1931, is now the health centre. Its church of la Asunción preserves a major late-17th-century altarpiece, with sculptures of la Asunción, San Pedro and San Pablo, and a Calvary in the attic.
The high altarpiece of the Assumption of Bercero
Monument
Dated to the last years of the 17th century, it brings together sculptures of the Assumption, of San Pedro and San Pablo, a Calvary and an Eternal Father topped by the dove of the Holy Spirit, in a village founded by repopulators from El Bierzo.
