What to see and do in Hontoria del Pinar

Hontoria del Pinar
Village
Hontoria del Pinar is a municipality in the Burgos comarca of the Sierra de la Demanda, 80 kilometres from the provincial capital, which also comprises Aldea del Pinar and Navas del Pinar and totals 613 inhabitants. Partly within the Cañón del Río Lobos Natural Park, which shapes its relief between the sierras of the Umbría and the Costalazo, it was already the head of an alfoz in 1075 and held a fair every 23 November. During the Napoleonic Wars, in 1809, the bands of the priest Merino defeated the columns of the French colonel Bremond in its gorge. It lived on carting, pine wood and livestock farming, and in 1884 Spain's first resin factory was set up here. Over the Lobos river it carries a three-arched Roman bridge, two of whose arches rest on a fallen rock.
