What to see and do in Castillejo de Robledo

Castillejo de Robledo
Village
Castillejo de Robledo is a village of one hundred inhabitants in the Soria comarca of Tierras del Burgo, within the judicial district of El Burgo de Osma. It preserves the ruins of a Templar castle and, nearby, on the hillside, the Romanesque church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, built of ashlar, dated to the late 11th or early 12th century, with a drum apse divided into three sections with capitals of palm leaves and a notable 13th-century portal with pointed archivolts that retains part of its original paintwork; the interior also holds remains of Romanesque mural paintings on the north wall and in the apse. The church was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), in the monument category, on 24 May 1974. A hunting reserve extends around it.
The wall paintings of the church of la Asunción
Monument
The Romanesque church preserves corbels of erotic subject matter and late Gothic frescoes: a dragon over the triumphal arch, warriors blessed by the Virgin and broad surfaces of lozenges that feign relief.
The oak grove of Corpes
Curiosity
The Cantar de mío Cid places in these oak groves the affront that the Infantes de Carrión inflicted on the Cid's daughters, although Robledo de Corpes, in Guadalajara, claims the same setting. The episode was painted centuries later in the church.
The vineyards and plateaus of the Duero
Nature
The municipal district drops from the páramos towards the valley of the Duero at the point where Soria, Burgos and Segovia meet, with high-altitude vineyard, holm oak wood and limestone crags crowned by the ruins of the castle.
