What to see and do in Vadocondes

Vadocondes
Village
Vadocondes is a municipality in the province of Burgos, in the Ribera del Duero comarca, situated in the very heart of the river valley, which it crosses from east to west. It takes its name from a famous ford across the Duero, used since ancient times by travellers and armies, including those of Abderramán III and Almanzor. It was subject to the abbatial jurisdiction of the monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos until King Fernando IV granted it the privilege of townhood in 1316, becoming a crown town. A town of 368 inhabitants declared a Conjunto Histórico (an official heritage designation for historic urban ensembles) in 2008, with two bridges over the Duero, one from the 18th century and the other from the 19th; its patronal festivals, in honour of Saints Cosmas and Damian, close the festive calendar on the last weekend of September.

Nature
The river makes its way between poplar plantations, poplar groves and willow groves that form a green corridor in the middle of the cereal moorland and the vineyard. These banks are a refuge for otter, kingfisher and grey heron.
