What to see and do in Langa de Duero

Langa de Duero
Village
Langa de Duero is a town of 696 inhabitants situated at the western edge of the province of Soria, in the comarca of Tierras del Burgo, at 854 metres of altitude and crossed from east to west by the Duero. Declared a Conjunto Histórico (a Spanish heritage-protection category for historic town ensembles) in 2007, it is the heir of the Celtiberian Segontia Lanka and preserves a castle and a twelve-arch stone bridge over the river, around which its vineyards fall within the Ribera del Duero designation of origin. From the bridge starts the stage of the GR-14 trail that follows the Duero's course to La Vid, through riverside woods and the fairy chimneys, curious geological formations of the area; the town is also crossed by the Camino del Cid, GR-160. In its municipal area grows a white poplar about 400 years old, with a trunk more than four metres in diameter.
The Torre del Cubo
Monument
An ashlar tower of quadrangular plan and some twenty-five metres in height, with walls up to two metres thick and a battlemented finish. Raised between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, it was declared a monument in 1949.
Segontia Lanka, the Celtiberian mint
Curiosity
The origin of the town goes back to the Celtiberian settlement of Segontia Lanka, which minted its own coin between the second and first centuries BC. Its remains are spread over the hill that commands the flood plain of the Duero.
