Carrascosa de Abajo
Village
Carrascosa de Abajo is a hamlet of Tierras del Burgo, in the province of Soria, situated on the Ruta de la Lana, with barely 18 inhabitants (INE 2025); it was part of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Caracena and belonged to the diocese of Sigüenza until 1957. In 1787, under the census of the Count of Floridablanca, it was a place under the lordship of the Duke of Uceda, also marquis of Caracena and Berlanga, with 175 inhabitants; by the mid-19th century it had 42 houses. It has a 12th-century bridge and a 10th-century Muslim watchtower, and in many of its houses one can recognise ashlar stones brought from the nearby Roman city of Tiermes. The church of San Pedro holds a Romanesque baptismal font, and at the entrance to the village flows a fountain of abundant water surrounded by trees.
