Quintanas de Gormaz
Village
Quintanas de Gormaz is a village of 119 inhabitants in the province of Soria whose name recalls the quintana, the estate that paid the lord a fifth of its produce; after the Reconquista it remained tied to the Alfoz de Gormaz and to the town of the same name until the abolition of the lordships in the 19th century, first under the Count of Castro and, according to the 1789 census, under the Count of Ribadavia, with 393 inhabitants at that time. In 1895 the Valladolid-Ariza railway line opened to traffic, giving the municipality its own station, closed to passenger traffic in 1985 for running at a loss. Its schools of 1927, built with money from the local resin industry when Laureano Soria was mayor, now house a museum devoted to that trade.
