Fresno de Caracena
Village
Fresno de Caracena is a hamlet of sixteen inhabitants in the Soria district of Tierras del Burgo, located in the Marquisate of Berlanga and crossed by the Ruta de la Lana. After the Reconquest it remained attached to the Alfoz de Gormaz until, in the 17th century, it obtained the title of town and passed to the lordship of the marquises of Berlanga, under whose jurisdiction it was governed by an ordinary alcalde appointed by the Duke of Frías. It preserves the church of la Asunción and a rollo-picota still standing, and here lived the priest Per Abbat, to whom Menéndez Pidal attributed, together with another author, the authorship or copying of the Cantar de mio Cid.
