What to see and do in Fuentes de Magaña

Fuentes de Magaña
Village
Fuentes de Magaña is a village of 47 inhabitants in the comarca of Tierras Altas, in the province of Soria, bathed by the río Alhama south of the sierra de Alcarama and surrounded by cereal crops. A ravine that crosses the square divides the town in two, with small vegetable gardens along its bed; following its course towards Cerbón begins the Miraflores ravine, where a collection of dinosaur footprints is preserved. The village preserves its jurisdictional pillar, known as the gallows, with two pillories; nearby lies the Miraflores footprint site, marked with a 32-metre-long apatosaurus model.
The largest dinosaur in the world
Curiosity
On the outskirts of the village stands a reproduction of an apatosaurus thirty-two metres long by eight high, presented as the largest dinosaur model in the world, linked to the footprints of the comarca.
The hermitage of San Sebastián
Monument
Built in 1661 beside the cemetery, it accompanies the parish church of the Purísima Concepción, restored in recent years, in a village that Madoz described with seventy-two houses.
Between Alcarama and Rodadero
Nature
The municipal district is enclosed between these two sierras, covered with oak and holm oak woods where wild boar, roe deer, fox, rabbit, partridge and quail are hunted, with the river Alhama crossing the valley floor.
Cauldron Sunday
Activity
The village celebrates Santa Isabel on the Saturday following the Domingo de Calderas and the Santo Cristo on the second Sunday of September, two dates that structure the local festive calendar.
From 374 residents to 47
Historical milestone
The census of that year counted 374 inhabitants in the village; the current register records 47. Emigration to Navarre, La Rioja and the Basque Country emptied these sierras in barely two generations.
