What to see and do in Cabrejas del Pinar

Cabrejas del Pinar
Village
Cabrejas del Pinar is a locality of about 290 residents at the foot of the sierra de Cabrejas, in the Soria district of Pinares, with mountainous, heavily wooded terrain; almost half of its municipal area is included in the Natura 2000 Network as a Site of Community Importance. It had a station on the Santander–Mediterráneo railway line until its closure in 1985, and today lives on the timber and food industries, as well as the tourism drawn by the Soria stretch of the Camino de Santiago, known as Castellano-Aragonés, which passes through the locality. It preserves an interesting Romanesque church and well-preserved traditional architecture, dominated by the ruins of its medieval castle, and the hermitage of la Blanca, built in 1789, is the destination of a pilgrimage attended by the surrounding villages.
The Castle of Cabrejas del Pinar
Monument
A medieval fortress that dominates the village from a hill, on the edge of the sierra that bears its name; it controlled the pass between the valley of the Duero and the pine woods of the sierra de Urbión.
The Church of San Millán
Monument
A parish church with preserved Romanesque elements, accompanied by the hermitage of La Blanca, built in 1789; both serve a municipality that in 1842 came to have 432 inhabitants.
The 1985 Rail Line Closure
Historical milestone
The station on the Santander-Mediterráneo line ceased service in 1985; the railway, which was never completed between the Cantabrian and the Levante, had been the comarca's great economic hope.
