What to see and do in Talveila

Talveila
Village
Talveila, in the Soria comarca of Pinares, brings together the settlements of Talveila, Cantalucia and Fuentecantales, incorporated at different times between the 19th and 20th centuries, after previously losing that of Cubilla, which became independent in the early 20th century. In the 1787 census it appeared as the head town of the Merindad de Solpeña, under the manorial jurisdiction of the Marquis of Badillo, with 293 inhabitants; by the mid-19th century it was known as Talbeyla and had about 45 houses. Almost half its municipal area is protected within the Site of Community Importance of the Sabinares de la Sierra de Cabrejas. Its patronal festivities, in honour of San Miguel Arcángel, are celebrated on 29 and 30 September with a flower-decked dawn parade, a solemn mass, an auction of bread rolls, skittles and «calva» championships, and an open-air dance. Today it has about a hundred inhabitants.
The Juniper Groves of Talveila

The Caldereta of San Miguel
Food and drink
On 29 and 30 September the village celebrates its patron with a procession, games of bowls, calva and tanguilla and a communal caldereta shared out among all the residents in the square.
The Seigneurial Town of 1787
Historical milestone
The Floridablanca census of 1787 describes Talveila as a seigneurial town; over the following two centuries the municipality took in Cantalucia and Fuentecantales and lost instead the village of Cubilla.
