What to see and do in Alconaba

Alconaba
Village
Alconaba is a municipality in the province of Soria, ten kilometres from the provincial capital, which brings together the settlements of Alconaba, Cubo de Hogueras, Martialay and Ontalvilla de Valcorba, incorporated in the mid-19th century. Its name, documented as Arconava in 1270, comes from the Arabic al-qunnaba, hemp or hemp field. In the Middle Ages it was part of the sexmo de Lubia, within the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Soria, and after the fall of the Ancien Régime it was constituted as a municipality under the name Alconaba y La Salma, with 40 households and 162 residents according to the 1842 census. The flat terrain descends towards the río Duero, whose waters are dammed at the embalse de Los Rábanos, on the western edge of the municipal area. It has 198 inhabitants.
