Village
Castilfrío de la Sierra is a hamlet in the province of Soria, in the comarca of Almarza, with 35 inhabitants, watered by the río Chico, a tributary of the Merdancho, south of the sierra del Rodadero and in the shadow of the 1,487-metre pico Piedra de la Mina. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the sexmo de Tera, within the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Soria, and the 1528 census of pecheros recorded it, under the name Castelfrío de San Juan, with twenty-six taxpaying family units. After the fall of the Ancien Régime it was constituted as a municipality, then called Castil Frío, which in 1842 had 85 households and 348 residents, and by the mid-19th century had a hundred houses.
