Castrojimeno
Village
Castrojimeno is a town in the province of Segovia with 27 inhabitants, perched on a limestone crag that two streams, the Hoceca and the Arroyo, carve into the shape of a ship's keel before joining the reguero de la Hoz, a tributary of the Duratón. It owes its name to the Basque-Navarrese knight Ximeno Azenares, who resettled the place around 1030 on behalf of the council of Sepúlveda, within whose Comunidad de Villa y Tierra the town was included. In 1558 Philip II, pressed by the costs of his foreign policy, sold the jurisdictional lordship of Castrojimeno, together with that of Carrascal, to Antonio de Luna y Valois, lord of Fuentidueña, who the following year received the deed of sale from the hands of the regent infanta Joanna of Austria. It preserves the church of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza.
