Sotillo
Village
Sotillo is a municipality of the Community of Town and Land of Sepúlveda, in the province of Segovia, with 31 inhabitants, formed, besides the main settlement, by that of Fresneda de Sepúlveda, incorporated in 1857; it belongs to the ochavo de la Sierra y Castillejo, whose meetings were held in the now-vanished Casa de los Ochaveros. Its name is a diminutive of «soto» (riverside woodland), referring to the gallery forest by the río Duratón, which crosses the municipal area between the monte de la Dehesa and the arroyo de la Fuente. It preserves the Romanesque church of the Natividad de la Virgen, from the 13th century, which retains its original structure with a Baroque altarpiece, and celebrates its main festivals on the first weekend of September, as well as the Virgen de Fátima in May and San Roque in October.
