Canalejas de Peñafiel
Village
Canalejas de Peñafiel is a village of 248 inhabitants at the eastern edge of Valladolid, comarca of Campo de Peñafiel, with 32 square kilometres of cereal-growing páramo. Its climate, Mediterranean made continental by the altitude, has an average annual temperature of 12.4 degrees with strong swings between day and night; winters are long and cold, with frequent fog and frost, and summers, short and hot, live up to the Castilian saying of 'nine months of winter and three of hell'. Rainfall, scarce and spread out except in the dry summer, arrives mostly from the west, the only side without mountains to block the Atlantic winds. The municipality approved its official coat of arms and flag on 28 March 2014.
The coat of arms of the three hills
Curiosity
The municipal symbols, approved on 28 March 2014, bear three mounts of gold surmounted by a tower of the same metal, alluding to the relief of a municipal district of 32 square kilometres at 897 metres of altitude.
