What to see and do in Arahuetes

Arahuetes
Village
Arahuetes is a village of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Pedraza, in the province of Segovia, with about 31 inhabitants, on a rise near La Velilla, made up of Arahuetes and Pajares de Pedraza. Its name has been interpreted as derived from the Basque-Iberian place name ara-otz, cold plain, and until 1826 the old form Aragüetes was used. Its church of San Andrés holds a side altarpiece with Renaissance paintings by Diego de Aguilar, mannerist canvases from the circle of Alonso de Herrera and a 17th-century silver ciborium; at Los Castillejos stand watchtowers that guarded the crossing of the Santa Águeda river, and remains survive of the church of Santa Águeda and the Cueva del Moro. The village provided the setting for the fictional Sagrillas in the TV series Cuéntame cómo pasó.

Curiosity
