Tolocirio
Village
Tolocirio is a hamlet of 38 inhabitants in the campiña segoviana, close to the boundaries with Ávila and Valladolid, at 808 metres of altitude, within the former community of Villa y Tierra de Arévalo, in the Sexmo de la Vega. Its name comes from the resettler Tello Dulcidio, cited in 1250 as Tellocirio. It preserves a fortified, Romanesque-Mudéjar church, dedicated to San Pedro Apóstol and dated to the 11th century, similar to those of Orbita and Almenara de Adaja, built to control farmland and the roads between Arévalo, Valladolid, Madrid, Segovia and Ávila. On top of the hill there also stands an optical telegraph tower used during the Carlist Wars.
