Añe
Village
Añe is a hamlet in the province of Segovia, in the campiña segoviana, 21 kilometres from the provincial capital, with around 67 inhabitants beside the Moros river. It belonged to the Sexmo de Santa Eulalia of the Comunidad de Ciudad y Tierra de Segovia, of which it was the head of the Cuadrilla del Río, and between 1972 and 1980 it was incorporated as a dependent hamlet of the municipality of Armuña. Its riverside grove of century-old ash trees, one of the best preserved in Spain, was threatened for decades by the Francoist project for the Bernardos reservoir, abandoned in 2005 for its economic unfeasibility and environmental impact. The writer Camilo José Cela recorded the village in his book “Judíos, moros y cristianos”. Añe also preserves a Gothic-Mudéjar church with a large bell-gable and a Romanesque hermitage.
