Armuña
Village
Armuña is a Segovian municipality of around 253 inhabitants, made up of the capital and the settlements of Carbonero de Ahusín and Añe, independent until the mid-20th century. At the Los Casares site, archaeologists from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid discovered a nine-metre-long Roman geometric mosaic, part of a U-shaped villa occupied between the 1st and 4th centuries around a pond eighteen metres long by five wide; according to the archaeologists, there is no Roman villa of such importance at so early a date anywhere else in Castile and León. Alongside the mosaic numerous fragments of terra sigillata from the 1st to the 4th centuries have been found. The municipality also has a Late Cretaceous palaeontological site, with remains of fish, turtles and dinosaurs.
