Brieva
Village
Brieva is a village of about 93 inhabitants in the Alfoz de Segovia district, at 1,089 metres above sea level, whose name could come from the Latin vêpres (thorn bush, bramble) or from a resettlement that came from Brieva de Cameros, in La Rioja. It belonged to the Sexmo de San Lorenzo of the former Community of City and Land of Segovia. It preserves houses with Segovian sgraffito, among them the Casa azul of Lucía Bosé, a stone wayside cross with an old inscription on the Plaza Mayor, an old forge and a farrier's frame, as well as the ermita of las Cinco Llagas or de la Veracruz, next to the cemetery. On 13 December it celebrates the festivity of La Traslación, which recalls the passing through the town of the remains of the apostle Saint James on the way to Compostela, and in summer it hosts the Festival Poético del Panduro.
