Torreiglesias
Village
Torreiglesias is a municipality in the Community of City and Land of Segovia that also brings together Losana de Pirón - independent until 1970 - and Otones de Benjumea - independent until 1972 -, with about 257 inhabitants, at the confluence of the Pirón river and the Viejo river, near the sierra de Guadarrama. In Losana lies the Vaquera cave, with Neolithic remains, and the bandit Fernando Delgado Sanz, known as the Tuerto de Pirón, passed through the municipal area and was especially active in Torreiglesias. The village preserves a church of Romanesque origin dedicated to la Asunción, the Covatillas bridge, on the old Camino Real de Turégano, and the hermitage of the Santo Cristo del Humilladero. Its main festivals, in honour of la Asunción and San Roque, are held on 15 and 16 August.
