What to see and do in Vilvestre

Vilvestre
Village
Vilvestre is a municipality in the Vitigudino district, in the province of Salamanca, with about 374 inhabitants, integrated into the Arribes del Duero natural park, which in turn is part of the Meseta Ibérica transboundary biosphere reserve. It borders the Duero river to the west, which forms a natural border with Portugal. It keeps its pillory and the viewpoint on the castle hill; that fortress held out with the supporters of Juana la Beltraneja and was left in ruins in the 17th century by Portuguese troops during the War of Restoration. Among its other notable places are Mount Gudín, the church, the mill of la Luisa and the site of the La Barca jetty. Its coat of arms was approved on 11 April 1997.
The wines of the Arribes Designation of Origin
Food and drink
Recognised in 2007, the designation covers the wines of the terraced slopes of the Duero. Its identity mark is two red grapes exclusive to this land, juan garcía and bruñal, to which are added rufete, albillo and malvasía.
