What to see and do in Mieza

Mieza
Village
Mieza is a hamlet in the Vitigudino district, in the La Ribera or Las Arribes sub-district, located in the northwest of Salamanca, on the border with Portugal, within the Arribes del Duero natural park, whose views make it an especially touristic village. It has about 170 inhabitants and looks out over the Duero from several viewpoints. The arribes area was fortified before the Treaty of Alcañices to defend the León border against Portugal, which became independent from León in 1143: there were castles at Vilvestre, Barruecopardo, Mieza, Aldeadávila —which keeps its keep—, Pereña and Masueco. Repopulated by the León monarchs, Mieza was a royal lordship under Alfonso IX of León and later passed to the county of Ledesma, of which the Sexmo de Mieza was part in the 18th century.
