Valsalabroso
Village
Valsalabroso is a municipality in Salamanca of about 120 inhabitants, in the Vitigudino district, which also includes the settlement of Las Uces, four kilometres away. Its name comes from Vallem Salebrosum, as it appears in a document of King Ferdinand II of León dated December 1169, a period to which the founding of the village also goes back, on an ancient Vettonian hillfort of the Iron Age with Roman continuity. In the 16th century it was a lordship shared between the crown and the archpriesthood of Santiago de Compostela. In Las Uces the hermitage of la Madre de Dios is preserved, from the 12th century, and in the main settlement, the church of San Ildefonso. The population has fallen notably in recent decades: in the year 2000 the municipality had 232 inhabitants.
