Barceo
Village
Barceo is a hamlet in the comarca of Vitigudino, in the sub-comarca of La Ramajería, made up of Barceo and its hamlet Barceíno, with barely 45 inhabitants over 21 km². The diminutive of Barceíno reveals that its 12th-century resettlers came from other parts of the kingdom of León, a toponymic pattern repeated in the region, as in Moral and Moralina or Carbajales and Carbajalinos. Documented as a hamlet since the second half of the 13th century, a century earlier it had been integrated into the lordship of the Order of Santiago by order of Ferdinand II of León, under the Leonese bishopric of the Order. Once this was dissolved, in 1873 Barceo passed to the diocese of Ciudad Rodrigo, to which it belongs today. In 1833 it was integrated into the province of Salamanca and in 1983 into the autonomous community of Castile and León.
