Cabeza del Caballo
Village
Cabeza del Caballo is a municipality of around 224 inhabitants in the comarca of Vitigudino, in the northwest of Salamanca province, which also includes the village of Fuentes de Masueco. Part of its territory lies within the Arribes del Duero Nature Park. The río de las Uces runs through it, feeding the Pozo de los Humos, a waterfall around 50 metres high between the neighbouring villages of Pereña and Masueco; a single span, the Robleo bridge, built of granite ashlars almost without mortar, crosses its narrow gorge. Founded during the medieval repopulation by the Leonese kings, it was placed within the Alfoz de Ledesma created by Ferdinand II of León in the 12th century. It has steadily lost population and lives from livestock farming and agriculture. Its traditional game is tiro al palancón, throwing a heavy iron bar.
