Valderrodrigo
Village
Valderrodrigo is a hamlet in the Vitigudino district, in the Salamancan sub-district of La Ramajería, located among the villages of Valsalabroso, Barceo, Villasbuenas and Guadramiro. It has about 129 inhabitants, a figure that has been declining from the 191 of the year 2000. Its name, unchanged since the medieval founding of the place, means "valley of Rodrigo" in the Leonese of the time: some theories attribute the founding to Rodrigo González Girón, the same nobleman who gave his name to Ciudad Rodrigo. The village arose from the repopulations undertaken by the kings of León and was a lordship of the Order of Santiago from the 12th century, by grant of Ferdinand II, until 1873. It celebrates the Madrinas on the first weekend of October and the Torito Perdigón, with its own statue, on the last weekend of July.
