Encinasola de los Comendadores
Village
Encinasola de los Comendadores is a municipality of around 146 inhabitants made up of Encinasola and Picones, in the comarca of Vitigudino, province of Salamanca. On the territory of Picones stands the castro of the Picón de la Mora, from the second Iron Age, much earlier than the medieval hamlet, which was founded during the repopulation by the kings of León and documented in the 13th century as Erzinasola, within the Alfoz de Ledesma. It belonged to the diocese of Zamora until 1185, when it passed to that of Salamanca. In 1901, 104 residents bought the territory of the municipality for 475,000 pesetas, which until then had remained the property of the lords of Guadramiro.
