Bogajo
Village
Bogajo is a village of around 124 inhabitants in the comarca of Vitigudino, in the sub-comarca of El Abadengo, in the province of Salamanca, whose name recalls, like many others in the old Leonese area, a gall growth on the oaks of the region. Already mentioned in the 1175 bull establishing the diocese of Ciudad Rodrigo, according to which it housed the so-called Monasterium de Peraria, it later became linked to the Order of the Temple, to which Ferdinand II of León granted these lands. During the Peninsular War, French troops looted the village and executed several residents. Between 1887 and 1985 it had rail service on the line linking Salamanca with Porto. On the ground of its square, in front of a town hall with an ashlar façade, a stone mosaic depicts the botón charro.
