Villares de Yeltes
Village
Villares de Yeltes is a municipality in the province of Salamanca, in Castile and León, part of the comarca of Vitigudino and the sub-comarca of the Tierra de Vitigudino; its territory, of 40.54 km², brings together the settlements of Villares de Yeltes, La Estación and Pedro Álvaro and has 102 inhabitants. The village sits at 728 m of altitude, on a rise on the right bank of the Yeltes river, on mostly slate terrain with granite outcrops to the northwest. Its name alludes to ancient settlements in the surrounding area, Roman and early medieval, and its fortress was part of the Leonese defensive line of the Huebra-Yeltes; facing it, other fortresses were raised in pre-Roman times, such as the one called Las Cercas. It borders Pozos de Hinojo, El Cubo de Don Sancho, Retortillo and Boada.
