What to see and do in Aldeaseca de la Frontera

Aldeaseca de la Frontera
Village
Aldeaseca de la Frontera is a municipality in the Salamancan comarca of the Tierra de Peñaranda, with about 240 inhabitants. Its name alludes to the old frontier between the kingdoms of León and Castile, in Leonese territory, and its founding goes back to the medieval repopulation carried out by the kings of León. The church of la Asunción displays a Romanesque-Mudéjar apse decorated with two rows of blind arches over a solid plinth; its tower was built in the 16th century, and it holds a 15th-century pulpit and a Baroque altarpiece. On the páramo of Tordillos a Bronze Age site was excavated, yielding vessels, metal tools, a Roman millstone and human remains. The patronal festivities, on 15 May for San Isidro, keep alive the tradition of planting the Mayo among the young conscripts.
